Historic Old Russian Orthodox Church in Kenai
Kenai was a Dena'ina Native community. They fished, hunted, trapped and traded with other tribes. In 1791 it became the second permanent settlement established by Russians in Alaska when a fortified post called Fort St Nicholas or St. Nicholas Redoubt was built. In 1869 US Army established Fort Kenai (Kenay); in 1899 a post office was authorized.
